Why Nexus Ponticus?

For Jaakko, the connection between Finland and Georgia has grown through repeated visits and work with people in business, education and public institutions. Over approximately a decade, he and Gela have helped bring together forums, round-table discussions, company visits and delegations, as well as teacher and student exchanges.

Nexus Ponticus provides a way to build on that experience across the Baltic and Black Sea regions, beginning with specific needs and the people best placed to help.

Experience he brings

Jaakko is co-owner of Ämpärikauppa.fi and chair of the Finland–Georgia Business Association. His commercial work involves promotional products that keep a company’s message visible in customers’ everyday lives. He previously served on the Turku Chamber of Commerce’s internationalisation committee.

He holds an MSc in e-Business from Aston University and a BA in International Business Management from Birmingham City University. Five years spent studying in England and Wales broadened his experience of working across cultures.

Connections he is working to build

At Nexus Ponticus, Jaakko develops Finnish and Nordic relationships and helps prepare focused discussions between suitable counterparts. His interests include connecting business needs with relevant expertise and turning shared interests into a clear, achievable next step.

His perspective combines familiarity with Finland and Georgia, a practical business background and an interest in how cooperation can benefit everyone taking part.

Beyond work

Sailing and boating in the Finnish archipelago are part of Jaakko’s life, alongside skiing in Finland and Georgia. An interest in food and wine offers another way to explore places and bring people together.
